Join Friends of Belle Isle Park (FoBIP) as we increase the biodiversity of this beautiful riverside park to aid our local wildlife and improve human/nature connection.

A great way to meet new friends and make both positive environmental and social impacts whilst keeping fit.

PLEASE RSVP and let us know if you cannot make it, or will be late, so that we know how many to plan for and when to expect you.

General activities include:

Clearing small areas within the meadow for enrichment planting with wildflowers; creating log/turf piles; maintaining access to improve nature connection provision.

There is no obligation to do manual tasks and Friends of Belle Isle Park welcome anyone who would like to build a community with other regular users of the park, or help run regular volunteer events.

What to Bring:

Please bring a drink, a snack, appropriate clothing for the weather, stout footwear/boots and gardening gloves (if you have any). We have tools for 14 people.

If severe weather is forecast, check the event before travelling.

Sorry, no dogs permitted in this park.

The nearest public toilets are at the Quayside, 10 mins walk.

Directions:

The park can be reached on foot or by bicycle, along the River Exe shared pathways or from Topsham Road via Trew's Weir Reach. Bus routes from the City Centre include the K, T and S. Look out for people in Hi-Viz when you arrive.

We are a group of predominantly local park users who recognise the value of this special place in regards to nature, and mental and physical well-being. Over several months, we have worked with the council to agree a new management strategy that aims to create a wilder Belle Isle, and thus increase opportunities for nature connection and all the benefits that brings to the community.

Belle Isle Park

Opened in 1992, Belle Isle is Exeter's newest park. With a view of ‘Leaf Land’ woods and the River Exe, the park is a favourite spot for lunchtime picnicking and casual bird watching. Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers, cormorants, woodpeckers, swifts and swallows are regular visitors. It's also a great place to watch the bats flying at dusk.

Following on form the fascinating talk and conversation with Dr Adrian Harris last Friday, he's hosting a free workshop to put into practice his wonderfully simple steps to reduce anxiety, ease stress, boost energy, improve attention and enhance creativity.
Reconnecting with nature as the path to all that healing in our busy lives.

We'll be meeting after the regular Belle Isle Park volunteers session which finishes at 13:00 (https://www.meetup.com/changemakers/events/314395204/)

If you want to make the most of the afternoon, which looks to be a very hot one, then you can also bring a picnic and do a little foraging from 13:15 - 14:00

About Adrian:

Renowned for his pioneering work in nature connection, Dr Adrian Harris is an ecopsychologist, psychotherapist, and workshop facilitator.

For over twenty years, he has worked with nature connection, training with leading practitioners from both the US and the UK.

Adrian has presented at conferences worldwide and published many articles on nature connection, including in 'Kindred Spirit', 'Pagan Dawn', 'Self & Society' and 'Person-Centered & Experiential Psychotherapies'. He is Lead Editor of 'The European Journal of Ecopsychology'.

Not been to Green Drinks before?

We're a very friendly and welcoming group and the event is hosted so you'll be greeted and introduced to others. So please don't worry about coming on your own, you'll very quickly make new friends and settle in.

Everyone is welcome, even if you're not in the Meetup group. And you don't need to RSVP, although that does help me identify you.

Join fellow lovers of nature and wildlife for a friendly social, an agenda free, relaxed evening for drinks every third Friday (food if you like) and free-flowing conversation with new friends.

If you do enjoy the evening, please do consider making a small donation of 50p or £1 on the night (there will be a collection tin and a QR code to donate online). It costs me over £240 a year to have this meetup account.
