What we’re about
We are a group of curious nature journalers who love to explore, observe, and document our observations about the natural world. This group is based off of Southern California, extending from Santa Barbara County to Ventura County.
We meet twice a month, either in person or virtually, to participate together in nature journaling prompts and to share our observations. Occasionally, we host formal presentations about nature journaling, art techniques, scientific concepts
All are welcome to participate in our events, regardless of your artistic skill or scientific expertise. Feel free to use whatever language (visual, written, etc) you feel the most comfortable with as you explore the intricacies of nature.

How do our local plant communities respond to and recover from fire? We will be asking this question, as well as any other questions you come up with, at the Santa Clara River Preserve, a newly open-to-the-public preserve that burned during the November 2024 Mountain Fire.
About the location:
The Santa Clara Preserve spans almost two miles of this amazing waterway and encompasses nearly 1,000 acres of upland habitat and riverbed.There are few locations on the Santa Clara River that are accessible to the public. Now with the opening of this preserve, TNC has provided a beautiful space for outdoor education, community gatherings, wildlife viewing and hiking. On the preserve TNC wants to give everyone a chance to connect with the dynamic Santa Clara River. Learn more about TNC's work on the preserve.
Rules of the preserve:
- Stay on trail
- No dogs or any other pets
- No horses
- No bikes
- Leave no trace. Trash cans are located in the amphitheatre and parking lot.
- No collection of wildlife or plants.
- No fishing
- No drones
Amenities:
A portable restroom is located in the parking lot.
No water is provided. Bring your own water.What to bring:
- A journal and writing/drawing supplies. If you would like to try out new supplies, our club has different journaling supplies that you can borrow for the session.
- Sun protection
- Food and water
- Something to sit on
- binoculars! This preserve has fantastic birding!
- Curiousity to observe and desire to spend quality time in nature!
