CIRGIS Ventura College GIS Day

Please join CIRGIS and Ventura College as we host Ventura GIS Day 2019 on Friday, December 6. The event begins at 8:00am and runs until 3:30pm, with lunch provided for all attendees.

Our Keynote this year is the very distinguished Michael Goodchild, . who will be what GIS means to him. He will discuss how from small beginnings in the 1960s, GIS has grown into a global industry worth tens of billions of dollars, and penetrated every aspect of human activity, from wayfinding apps to scientific research.

Today GIS is a central part of an emerging geospatial infrastructure that encompasses technology, education and human resources, and broader societal issues such as personal privacy. Michael will sketch some of the key points in his own engagement with GIS, and key decisions that explain the trajectory of GIS development. Michael will then end with some thoughts on the future.
