What we’re about

Love to read but find yourself longing for friends to discuss books with? Want a close-knit book club full of like-minded women to chat with while subtly swirling your favorite coffee? If that sounds like your idea of fun, you might be the perfect fit for my book club!

Chapters & Chatters Expectations:

What is a club meeting like and about how long does it run for?

  1. There will be two aspects to the meeting: the Discussion and the Social Hour.
  • The Discussion will be approximately one hour from the start of the club. We will do our best to adhere to this, but if for some reason there is not much to talk about concerning the book, it may end sooner. It is also possible that the discussion of the book will carry over into social hour.
  • Social hour starts after 11am or after about an hour, though discussion may continue.
  • It is acceptable to leave when the discussion of the book has finished. If you’d like to stay to socialize, you can, but it is not expected (and it’s okay if you have other obligations!)
  • In summary, typically our meetings run anywhere from 1-2 hours.
  1. If you would like to attend the Discussion, you must have read at least 75% of the book. You may still attend social hour or social meetings after the discussion if you have not read the book.

How do I get to nominate books for the club?

  1. Rule of 2: When new people are added to the club, they must attend two meetings before they are added into the book selection rotation. If a book club member misses two consecutive meetings, they will be removed from the book selection rotation. They may still vote on a book at the meeting, but they must attend two consecutive meetings to earn back their right to select.
  2. Members that have attend two consecutive meetings take turns nominating a book. Each person comes up with 2-3 options to vote on. You may propose these options in advance of the meeting, but it is not a requirement. The current rotation order is: Kelsea, Katie, Neelia, Christina; this is unlikely, but if you are exceptionally busy, you can cede your turn if you wish, but make sure you tell the group a week in advance. The person next in rotation will be elected to choose the book.
  3. You can attend a meeting no matter how many absences you have. It is only book nomination that is affected by attendance.
  4. To keep the books we read meaningful and relevant to regular attendees, if a member misses two consecutive meetings, they are removed from the nomination rotation.

What books does the group read?

  1. Genre Restrictions: the books selected for the group to vote on can be from any genre, as long as they are not part of a series. However, the author of your book selection should be well-known-- they must have written books previously that have been successful within critical communities and/or part of a well-renowned journal/magazine/organization.

When and where do ya'll meet?

  1. Meeting dates will be discussed and determined at the end of the book club meeting. It will always be on a Saturday morning at 10am at a cafe in Jacksonville. The next cafe location will be selected by the same person who nominates the book (unless they are absent from the meeting).
  2. Meeting dates and locations cannot be changed after the meeting for any reason.
  3. Meetings cannot be held at individual member's houses; this is to allow for new members to feel comfortable attending. Social events can take place at houses and it is up to the hostess's discretion who can attend.

Who can join?

  1. Member restrictions: if you’d like to invite someone to the book club, they must be in their 20s-30s and a woman.

Can I contribute my own questions?

  1. Christina will take responsibility for generating questions for the books-- but if you have questions you want to add, just ask me before the meeting!
