Hiking the Otter Trail in South Africa

Details

The Otter Trail in South Africa is one of the most spectacular 5 day coastal hikes in the world. Permits are limited to 12 hikers a day and book up 11 months in advance. The hike is 28 miles over 5 days along the coast of South Africa. Accommodation at night is in huts, with mattresses, firewood, grill, chemical toilets, but no electricity.

Day 1 - Hike 2.9 miles from Otter House to Ngubu Hut.
Day 2 - Hike 4.9 miles to Scott Hut
Day 3 - Hike 4.78 miles to Oakhurst Hut
Day 4 - Hike 8.57 miles to Andre Hut
Day 5 - Hike 6.71 miles to De Vasselot Camp and end of hike.

Before the hike we will spend 2 days in Cape Town going up to the top of Table Mountain, and touring Cape Point and the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. A flight from Cape Town to George, and a shuttle from the George airport gets us to the start of the hike at Storms River Rest Camp.
