Charleston: Hiking, Travel, and Adventure Closing Down June 28

Details

As an organizer on Meetup, I pay a monthly fee to Meetup. Since I don’t charge a fee to anyone to join this group, I pay this fee myself. My subscription comes up for renewal on June 28, and I have decided not to renew my organizer subscription with Meetup and I will be closing down Charleston: Hiking, Travel and Adventure on the Meetup website on June 28. If you have signed up for any events in 2025, they are still on.

The Full Moon Walk on July 10 is still on. The full moon will take place regardless of whether or not I cancel my meetup subscription. Copy the details of the event before the site closes down and we will see you there.

Other events that will still take place.

The Rae Lakes Loop Hike September 7.
The Otter Trail Hike in South Africa in January 2026.

The main reason for closing the group is that I will only be hosting 4 trips in 2026. Most of them are already booked or only have one or two openings available

In 2026 I’ll be hosting:

The Otter Trail in South Africa – January – filled.

The Pacific Crest Trail – Late March-April – August 2026: In late March - early April 2026 I plan to start on a 5-month hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. The lottery for permits to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in 2026 opens in October 2025. I plan to enter the lottery and expect to get a permit for 3 people to start hiking the PCT in late March or early April of 2026 for a 5-month hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. The Pacific Crest Trail is probably the most beautiful long distance hiking trail in the world. One of the few hiking experiences which will change your life. If this is on your bucket list contact me before I apply for permits.

The Lakes District – late August or September 2026– filled.

Naxos and Amorgos – October 2026 – 3 openings available. Naxos and Amorgos, in the Greek Islands– October 2026 – Three weeks working remotely, doing local hikes and sampling the food and wine in the villages of Filoti in Naxos and Tholaria in Amorgos.

Thank you to everyone who joined the group. Just because I’m shutting down the group doesn’t mean I’m not travelling or still looking for a weekend adventure.
