Build Your City
A community bench building workshop with Benches 4 Bus Stops and MakerSpace Charlotte where you can make tangible change happen.
Come out to learn more, talk about ways to get involved, and enjoy the company of other people who want to build our city up together!
If you want to be involved in hands on work at the event, please fill out the volunteer form at Sign Up Genius. Be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on.
This is a family-friendly all-ages event; however, some activities may have age, ability, and training requirements. Please reach out to us at BenchesForBusStops@gmail.com if you have questions or concerns about this.
This event will take place outdoors in a parking lot, rain or shine. There will be tents for staining the wood to keep it dry. The space, including inside the building to bathrooms, is wheelchair accessible.
A limited number of our leaders can speak Spanish and one has limited ASL proficiency. Otherwise communication will be in spoken English, bench drawings, and via visual demos.
This is an inclusive event where we want everyone to feel safe, and we have the following boundaries:
- We require that all participants wear masks as well as activity-appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to help keep everyone safe. We will have N95 masks and other PPE available for free, but you are welcome to bring your own.
- Anti-social/anti-inclusive speech or behavior will result in corrective action by event organizers up to and including expulsion from the event.
Additionally, we acknowledge that the Charlotte Metro area stands on the stolen lands of the Mánu: Yį Įsuwą, Cheraw, and Sugaree peoples.
Water and electrolyte drinks will be available for free.
We will send more information to those signed up for hands on work closer to the event date to assign duties.
Lunch, water, coffee, snacks and electrolyte drinks will be available for free. Bringing your own cup and fork is encouraged. Please let me know if you have any allergies, restrictions, or preferences.
If you want to be involved in future events, please fill out our volunteer form at https://b4bs.org/join
