Policy Hour - Equitable Development in Charlotte

Details
How do communities benefit from development without displacing themselves?
That's the catch-22 all grassroots-led design and community development initiatives have grappled with. Since corridor leadership spearheaded the West End Urban Vision Plan in the early 2000s, architects and developers have worked tirelessly through successive initiatives to create a more just and equitable vision for Charlotte's West End.
Today, 5 Points stands on the brink of uniting key elements that could pave the way for development models that uplift Charlotte's Crescent communities without compromising their authenticity.
Led by Historic West End Partners, the 5 Points Forward initiative has mapped out a Public-Private-Non-Profit blueprint for implementation.
Join us to hear from urban designers Henry Stepp of Shook Kelley and Eric Orozco of Neighboring Concepts, as they discuss their efforts to develop a workable model for historic preservation and equitable growth. They’ll share valuable lessons from the City's evolving policy directions and outline what it takes to turn visionary goals into sustainable, community-centered reality.
HOW TO FIND US
We will be meeting in the Parr Center, located at CPCC’s main campus. To find us, head through the entrance at 1201 Elizabeth Ave by the CPCC Gold Line station.
