Charlotte Critical Mass - May - John Holmes III Memorial Ride

Details

You are not in traffic, you are traffic
Critical Mass is a global event that happens in many cities around the world on the last Friday of every month. Its object is to call attention to the needs of all road users, not just motorists. Besides that? Critical Mass is a great time for all involved that uses organization and safety in numbers to create a safe environment for a fun-filled ride for everyone.

Critical Mass is also an opportunity to show what our traffic patterns could be. There are many events taking place in Charlotte on a Friday Night, each of them contributing to traffic. Ours is the only one that can get hundreds of people through any given part of our road network in less than a couple of minutes.

Third Year Anniversary - In Memory of John Holmes III
Three years ago as of the date of this ride, Critical Mass got started again in the Queen City. Regrettably, at the very end of last year, we lost one of its founders and one of the city's most influential and beloved bike advocates: John Holmes III. We will ride in memory and celebration of his life and the numerous ways that he made Charlotte a better place.

The first Critical Mass rides that began three years ago left from The Spoke Easy. After the ride, please join us there for a post-ride celebration. (1530 Elizabeth Avenue - We will of course lead a bike bus to it from First Ward Park)

Who can come?
Everyone! We are an all-ages and abilities ride, and adopt a slow to moderate pace to accommodate that.

Please note: To ensure that this is truly a ride for everyone, we do not condone harassment towards any attendee(s).

What to bring?
Anything that rolls (that isn't a car). Bikes, scooters, roller skates, etc.

How long is it?
The ride departs exactly fifteen minutes after the meet time, and our routes are about an hour long (Roughly seven to nine miles in length). We explore new neighborhoods in Charlotte every month.

How can I volunteer for or help the ride?
We are always looking for volunteers to help with the management of the ride. If interested, please send a direct message to the host. Additionally, if you would like to contribute towards the purchase of promotional materials for the ride, we've set up a GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/1a0a0714

Do other cities in North Carolina have Critical Mass Rides of their own?
If you find yourself outside of the Queen City, we encourage you to check out these other groups and events!
