Statements such as “may contain milk” or “made in a facility with milk” do not mean there is dairy in the product. Companies put these statements on labels to legally protect them for the slight chance of cross-contamination from dairy. If the word “milk” is preceded by something that comes from plants, like almond, coconut, rice, soy, etc., it’s dairy-free. To avoid milk and other dairy derivatives, scan food labels for “Contains: Milk” (usually below the list of ingredients). If no such statement appears, read the ingredients list.
