The "8th Annual Irish Beer Mile" and St. Patrick' s Day After-Party is upon us!

What's a BEER MILE? It is only the most epic drinking event with a little bit of running that we crazy Charlotte Runners do every year.

The “course” is NOT the same as in previous years. So don't go there.

THE SCOOP:

What you will need to bring

  1. 4 COLD Beers or (4 COLD Root Beers). The whole point is to chug something FIZZY. CANS ONLY!!! one more time. CANS!

  2. I.D. Showing that you are 21 or over.

  3. $3.00 event fee (for prizes, door prizes, after-party refreshments, snacks, etc.)

Meet in front of the Legion Brewing with your 4 CHILLED UNOPENED BEVERAGES by 6pm – actually walk your 4 beers down to the Legion parking lot (beside the Legion) where people in green will be collecting them. Someone will be leading the troops over to the start of the Beer Mile at 6:30pm (ish). This will involve a very short run to a super secret location on private property. Please be patient during this time. This event always takes a bit of coordination.

o We are not able to guarantee that you will get to drink your own beer so don't be a whiner. If you bring non-alcoholic beer/root beer you will be able to drink a non-alcoholic beverage, but it may not be the exact ones you brought.

o Organizers will bring your beverages over to the course via tele-portation from the Legion – just get to brewery on time with your loot. We'll take care of the rest.

o Only Non-Alcoholic Beer or Root Beer can be substituted for beer.

o If Beer, it MUST be no more than 5% alcohol by volume. Official rules require beer to be at least 5% but our first rule is: we don't always follow rules. So bring whatever you want as long as it's not more than 5% alcohol. Just make sure it is CHILLED. And in a CAN.

  • The run will start at approximately 7:15pm. (You can’t get there on your own bc you don’t know where it is. You have to march to our beat.)

  • Race ends around 7:45, then jog back over to the Legion. Or just walk. Trust us, you'll have plenty of company.

  • To enter the BEER MILE, please bring your ID to the Legion at 6 pm showing that you are legally permitted to participate, and to drop off your CANNED beverages in coolers provided by the organizers. (NOTE: don’t be a troll and forget your beer; we also can't cool warm beer so please bring it CHILLED).

What we need (Please let us know ASAP if you can help):

  • Coolers (Large ones! Especially with wheels! )

  • Volunteers: If we don’t have 8-10 volunteers, this won’t happen. Those 8-10 people are NOT participating in the run and need to be SOBER during event as some will be DRIVING(might only need 4 or 5 drivers). Volunteers do have a great front seat view of all the zaniness!

Prizes to the FIRST MALE and FIRST FEMALE to complete the run will be awarded, as well as the "Best Dressed Leprechaun." The winner of The Charlotte Runners Beer Mile is a highly coveted title. Nobody remembers the other run event winners, but everyone remembers who won The Beer Mile - FOR YEARS.

Below is the official description and rules for the 8th Annual IRISH BEER MILE (please read all rules before you RSVP!)

*"Beer" refers to both beer and root beer (or non-alcoholic beer) when reading the rules.

  1. Each competitor drinks four beers and runs one mile. (Start - drink 1 beer/ run 1 quarter mile, beer/quarter mile, beer/quarter mile, beer/quarter mile - finish).

  2. Beer must be consumed before each next quarter mile is begun at designated beer stations.

  3. The race begins with the drinking of the first beer.

  4. Competitors must drink full 12 oz of beer at each beer station and overturn can to show empty contents to run monitors before leaving station.

  5. Volunteers will keep beer and root beer separate for easy identification by runners.

  6. Beer cans must not be tampered with in any manner (i.e. no shotgunning or puncturing the cans) No straws or other aids are allowed in order to aid in the speed of drinking.

  7. Beer must contain no more than 5% alcohol by volume (lite" beer is OK). Non-alcoholic beer or Root beer is acceptable for those who wish to not drink alcohol.

  8. Competitors who vomit (significant mouth foaming accepted - there is a difference and you know it when you see it) before they finish the race must complete one penalty quarter mile at the end of the race (immediately after the completion of their 4th quarter mile) to qualify for winning. (Note: Vomiting more than once during the race still requires only one penalty quarter mile at the end.)

  9. Beer Mile race participants must remain at the Legion Brewing aftermath (after-party) for at least 2 hours after the competition or have a designated driver take you home. Plan ahead for this. We will be having a fun after-party with periodic door prize drawings (so you have to stay to win), and plenty of water, Gatorade and snacks for everyone. NOTE: It's St. Patrick's Day. Cops are out in full force. So will be UBER drivers. And they are WAY cheaper than a DUI, traumatic head injury - or worse.

  10. VERY IMPORTANT! To qualify to win anything you must be wearing something GREEN during the IRISH BEER MILE to show off your IRISH SPIRIT!

  11. You assume all risk by participating in this event. Don't be stupid and drive afterwards. Contest prizes will be given out at the Legion. Please use caution and discretion on returning to the Legion after the Beer Mile. You can always ask the volunteers for a ride.
