Big Flat Mountain Loop via the Appalachian Trail

This is a 5.6 mile Loop trail with 935 ft elevation gain that takes approximately 2- 2.5 hours.
Plenty of parking is available at the Loft Mountain Information center.
The trail begins across the street on the other side of skyline drive.
We will walk up the Loft campground trail and turn left before the amphitheater. We will continue down the trail to left (North) on the A.T. We will follow the A.T north and return to skyline drive and the Loft wayside parking area.
Highlights are several nice viewpoints along the way. Challenges are steep sections and variety of terrains. There were a few downed trees and some overgrowth on the trail. We saw several bunnies and 3 deer.
Don't forget the bug spray and plenty of water!
