Come to the George Washington National Forest in the North River District to Bear Draft trail. Spend a day in the forest with the beautiful fall colors. We are looking for maintainers interested in helping with water bar work. If you have never done trail work before, you can come to just watch and learn even if you don't want to participate! We can also teach you if you want to learn!
From the small parking spot off route 728 (Stover shop road), we will drive approximately 1 mile up a dirt road (Stribling Springs Trail), until we reach another small parking lot to start out hike. We will proceed up Stribling Spring trail to FR 535 (Bears Draft Trail). This trail is 1.5 miles in length. It is a gradual incline with dirt path, rocky at times. There are 2 small creek crossings which are currently dried up. The water bars along the trail are in need of refurbishing. The trail has already been trimmed of branches and limbs. Let us know if you need a hard hat (required). We will have tools and orange vests (Bow season). Bring gloves, plenty of water and lunch. This is a multi-use trail used by hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders.
Meet at 17 Scenic Highway (rt. 42), Churchville, Va. We will carpool due to lack of sufficient parking at trail site and will be back to the carpool site by 5p.m.
