Shenandoah mountain trail crew renovated several failed grade dips on Bear Draft Trail last year, and we hope to complete the remaining ones this trip. These new, long lasting water control structures will help protect this beautiful trail from further erosion while minimizing future maintenance needs. Please help us finish this job. No experience necessary. We love to have new people join us!
We will be using digging tools, such as Mattocks, McLeods, shovels and fire rakes.
Meet us at Riverside plaza at the intersection of Rt 42 North and Rt. 250 in Churchville (park behind the bank) at 0900 a.m. to carpool, or meet us at Stribling Springs at 0930 a.m., if you know the way.
We will hike about 1.5 miles to the work area on the upper end of the trail (Bears Draft Trail FR 535). We will stop work at 2:30 p.m. and get folks back to the trail head by 3 p.m. and to Churchville by 3:30 p.m.
Bring gloves, water, and lunch. We will provide hard hats, safety glasses, and digging tools. If you happen to have a mattock, loppers, hand clippers, or pruning saw, bring them with you.
This trip is co-led by Laura Longley, Bear Draft Trail Maintainer, and Lynn Cameron. You can sign up using the Charlottesville PATC Meetup group or e-mailing Lynn at slynncameron@gmail.com.
