SNP Sams Rdg/Pine Hill Gap Hike
Details
This hike is a 12 mile Figure 8 hike in SNP's Central District featuring two large climbs with a total of about 3400 feet elevation gain. The hike uses the Hazel Mountain Trail, the Pine Hill Gap Trail, the Broad Hollow Trail, and the Sams Ridge Trail, with multiple stream crossings.
It is rated a strenuous, due to both the distance and elevation changes. Only experienced hikers will be permitted on this one.
It is an early hike because June is warm! (If I were solo, I'd try to be on the trail 2 hours earlier.) The 8:30 time is the trailhead meeting time, though Charlottesville-based hikers could carpool with me. Carpooling is strongly encouraged because we will be parking outside of SNP and space is limited.
There is a limit of 10 hikers on this hike. Everyone starts on the waitlist. Dogs are permitted if friendly and leashed.
