Modifying shared data is risky. Rust's ownership and borrowing rules provide powerful compile-time safety, but during the program execution more is needed. Rust's cell types provide controlled ways to do this through interior mutability.

The presentation's journey starts with cell types available in Rust's core and standard libraries and advances to the cell abstractions used by the Tock Operating System. The focus will end on how these abstractions solve embedded operating-system problems including statically allocated memory buffers, temporary ownership transfers, and direct interaction with memory-mapped hardware registers.

No previous Tock OS experience is required.
