Join us for a strenuous hike at Lone Mountain in Lone Mountain State Forest. The challenge is due to the elevation gain. Our route includes the following trails: Smokey Bear, Longest Mile, Carl Black Spur, Southwest, and Dailey. The lush trails are heavily wooded with rocks and steep sections. There is one stream crossing that could cause wet feet after a rain.

Lone Mountain is one of the 25 most prominent mountains in Tennessee because of its isolation. It's topographic prominence is about 2,000 feet, which is why it dominates the skyline and the view is so expansive. Most mountain summits show you one valley and one ridge, but from Coyote Point, atop Lone Mountain, you can see the entire landscape at once--long Appalachian ridges and valleys stretching across the horizon. This is the perfect place to stop for lunch and take in the view.

We plan to stay together as a group. We will take water/snack breaks, as needed, as well as an afternoon break at Coyote Point.

- Bring plenty of water!
- Sunscreen is highly recommended (there will be a lot of sun due to the lack of leaves on the trees)
- Pack a lunch and snacks
- Pets on a leash are allowed and must be able to keep up with the group
