The Reading Room bar+bookstore (aka a Readers’ Hangout)
Details
I’ve been wanting to check out The Reading Room ever since I first heard about it. No agenda; come for chill chats or to lounge and read in good company, to browse and buy a book, or try a cocktail amid ambiance (which some just say means it’s dark 😆). Bring a book, knitting, sketchbook, an audiobook - whatever you fancy.
Iceland has a modernly popularized Christmas tradition known as Jólabókaflóð, where new books are released en masse in the months leading up to Christmas, leading to books being among the top gifts. Christmas evenings are typically spent with family, delving into new books and traditionally having chocolate. Given a love of reading, I bring you this event, Friendsmas & Books, whether you have a gifted read to dive into or just need some time to cozy up and decompress among friends after the holiday bustle. Described as: “a bar and used bookstores… a cozy space with a dark wood bar, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and vintage lighting that creates the perfect ambiance for a quiet read or a lively conversation. If you’re planning to sip on a cocktail while diving into a new novel or host a book club meeting in a welcoming atmosphere, this place promises an experience unlike any other. Owner Linden Marno-Ferree, inspired by her love of books and her time working at Boston’s Harvard Bookstore, envisions the area as a cultural hub for community book clubs, art enthusiasts, and acting classes.”
