Join the Cheltenham Urban Gardeners community for a beginner-friendly workshop on starting and growing your own edible garden.
We are pleased to welcome Shanita Fields from the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, who will guide participants through the essential foundations of successful food gardening.
Participants will learn:

  • The six key criteria for choosing the right planting site
  • How to create a simple planting plan
  • The basics of starting seeds indoors vs. direct sowing outdoors
  • How to plant common produce such as tomatoes, peppers, herbs, kale, collards, onions, and more
  • Foundations of seasonal planting, companion planting, and crop rotation

This 60-minute educational session is designed for adult beginners and anyone interested in growing fresh, healthy food in home or community spaces.
Come learn practical gardening skills, connect with neighbors, and take the next step in cultivating food, wellness, and community right here in Cheltenham.
