Talk:
Kafka Taxi: Understand How Kafka Fits into a System by Building a Ride-Sharing App
Abstract:
Most of us learnt Kafka by starting a broker, creating a topic, and
then producing and consuming messages. I wanted to take a different
route. What if we met Kafka as the answer to a real problem?
As an experiment, I built a simple ride-sharing app like Uber: one
service and one database. Then I put realistic load on it until it
broke. Only then did I bring in Kafka, to see whether it actually
fixes the problem, and how.
This talk is what came out of that experiment. You don't need any
Kafka experience. In fact, it's better if you're completely new to
Kafka.

Talk:
Rent the Model. Own the Context.
Governing data in and data out of AI with Apache Kafka, Flink & Iceberg
Abstract:
Anyone can build an AI app on any model today, and swap it next quarter. What you can't swap is your context: the facts your AI reads and the answers it gives back. This talk follows one everyday moment, a card declined at a hotel checkout abroad, to show why AI assistants fail confidently on stale, ungoverned data, and what that costs customers and companies. We'll walk through the two "doors" of trust, data in and data out, and how Apache Kafka, Flink and Iceberg answer nine practical questions: Is it fresh? Where did it come from? Is the agent allowed to see it? What does it mean? Can we forget it? And on the way out: Is the answer grounded, valid, permitted and recorded? Vendor-neutral, all open source, with patterns you can try on Monday.
Level: Intermediate. Basic Kafka knowledge helps; no AI experience needed.
