http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/0/4/4/event_202296932.jpegI've lived in the area for 23 years now but had never been to Sugarloaf until last yeary. I had always looked at it from I-270 and laughed at the fact they called it a mountain, casting aside any thought of ever going there. Some friends dragged me kicking and screaming to a hike there last year. I was impressed. Sugarloaf is privately owned and managed by the Stronghold Corporation. Both state and national park services could take lessons from them. Their facilities and trail maintenance are impressive. Plus it is beautiful and they actually have garbage cans.

Sugarloaf is also an extremely popular destination so I've scheduled the start time a little earlier in hopes that everyone can find parking. Arrive a little early if you can. We'll meet at the West View parking area that is furthest up but it's a relatively short walk from the lower East View parking area if the top lot is full.

I would call most of the trails moderate although the ten minute climb to the top is pretty strenuous. Pack a lunch for a break somewhere around the midpoint and plan on stopping by the Sugarloaf Winery with me after the hike for some cheese, crackers and a $5 to $10 glass of wine. A bit pricey but good stuff for Maryland wine. We will hit the trail promptly at 10:00 AM
