Intermediate Skills Series - May 15: More Efficient Forward, Reverse and Stern Rudder Strokes

These “a la carte” courses are designed for people who may have been paddling for a while, but have never had any formal instruction AND/OR for those who want to fine tune their skills.

We’ll focus on different skills each week and you can pick and choose which courses you want to take. You’ll come away from each session with better boat control skills, or better rescue strategies, and a lot more confidence.

Don’t have a boat? No worries – rentals are available for an additional $20.00. Request one when you RSVP

Here's a list of all of the courses in the series. This posting is ONLY for the course highlighted in bold. Look at the other dates on the calendar to sign up for other courses.

· May 15: More efficient forward, reverse and stern rudder strokes

· May 22: Edging and turning strokes (edging, sweep, pivot, low brace turn)

· May 29: Draw strokes (in-water recovery; sculling, draw on the move, side slip)

· June 19: Bracing and sculling (support strokes)

· June 26: Rescues: T-rescue: heel hook re-entry; paddle float

One of my original objectives when starting Chesapeake Kayak Adventures was to offer members high quality kayak instructional courses at very reasonable prices. I searched high and low for the best way to do just that last year and finally found it in the form of a kindred spirit by the name of Rick Wiebush.

Rick is from Catonsville and runs Cross Currents Sea Kayaking. He is an American Canoe Association (ACA) Open Water Instructor and an Instructor Trainer (i.e. he trains people who want to be certified as ACA instructors).

Rick has been paddling for about 12 years and has been an instructor for six years. He is known as having a pretty laid back, patient and humorous approach to teaching, and is very passionate about helping people ramp up their skills.

There is a 4 person minimum for the class to take place with a 12 person maximum. The $50.00 course fee must be paid by debit or credit card at the time you sign up. The courses will take place rain or shine except in the most inclement conditions. If your plans change and you are unable to attend, credit will be given toward future course offerings.
