Anyone that wants to arrive early (around 1:45 PM) and help me secure our table is very much appreciated...

2:00 PM - casual play for 30 minutes

2:30 PM - 5:00 PM - casual tournament format:

  • All boards start new games at 2:30 PM
  • Time control 10+5 (10 minutes + 5 second bonus) time control (this is a compromise for those who play blitz versus those that play untimed); both players can agree to a shorter (but not longer) time control if desired. All games must use clock - use free lichess phone app clock if needed.
  • Randomly select white & black; black chooses clock placement
  • Clock move rule - once player hits the clock, the move is final (not touch move)
  • Anyone that considers themselves more beginner starts near the windows.
  • Anyone that considers themselves more advanced starts near the elevator.
  • If you win your game...move 1 or 2 seats towards the elevator
  • If you lose, move 1 (max 2) seats towards the window - and play next open board.
  • Try to follow other standard chess tournament rules: no take-backs, no handicaps, game ends when clock flags
  • Keep it casual, fun, and fast - no ratings or money is on the line.
  • It's OK to arrive late and jump in, leave early, or take a break in the middle
  • Your goal is to end up further towards the elevators than you started!

The "Living Room" is a large indoor space of lots of tables and sofas just past the food hall, which contains lots of restaurants and bars to choose from.

I have a few chess boards, but please bring a chess board if you can.

All skill levels are welcome!

This is a completely free event.
