Dunes Long Trail on Avenza Maps - ONLINE

Rick's Hike and Fun Group around Beverly Shores is hosting me (Jeff Wegerson) to talk about the latest version of the Dunes Long Trail map now on Avenza Maps. Rick will be giving out the Google Meet link at his Meetup Group about 20 minutes before the start. I will try to post it and send it to all who sign up here. If not join Rick's group to get it.

Avenza makes available maps in PDF format with Geo-Spatial data embedded. Since these maps are for iPhones or Android Phones you can see where you are on the map. Avenza has all the usual capabilities one expects from a Map App.

So besides showing the trail I will also be explaining the capabilities of Avenza. These include showing the next map as you traverse onto it. Or as you move your cursor to it. The maps can be organized in bundles that can all be downloaded at once. Dunes Long Trail offers the trail bundle for free.

Since map data is embedded into the pdf format once the maps are downloaded there is no need for internet connection while hiking. It also means that when drilling down the text enlarges.

I encourage event goers to download the free version Avenza app from your app store. Then join the event from your computer so you can follow along with Avenza on your own phone. I will be showing my phone screen online as I traverse Avenza's capabilities. It is not necessary but encouraged to create a free Avenza account after downloading. I have found the free version to meet all my needs.
