Porcupine Mountains - Intermediate Trip

Trip Details:

• Location: Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park
• Dates: Friday June 6 to Monday June 9
• Mileage/Elevation: Day 1 (5.84mi, 129ft), Day 2 (10.37mi, 1269ft), Day 3 (11.81mi, 1682ft), Day 4 (5.38mi, 347ft)
• Duration: 4 days, 3 nights
• Level: Intermediate
• Cost: $136 campsites, Parking, plus fuel costs

Please be aware that this trip is designed for intermediate backpackers who have experience doing multi-night trips. Email one of the organizers if you any questions about your readiness.

We use email for pre-trip communications. You will be asked to enter your email when you RSVP. Respond to organizer emails in a timely manner or risk forfeiting your spot on the trip. Participation is at the discretion of the organizer.

Gear: this outing will be a self-contained trip, meaning each participant shall provide their own backpacking gear, food, etc. as though this was a solo trip. Participants are encouraged to bring this own stove, fuel, and water filter, but organizers will share theirs with participants who do not have these items.

Itinerary:
Friday, June 9
Leave the Chicago area by 7:00 am. and drive approximately 7 hours to Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Pickup permits and park at the trailhead. We will hike a little less than 6 miles to the campsite.

Saturday, June 10
We will hike about 10 miles to our next campsite at Lake of The Clouds.

Sunday, June 11
Hike over 11 miles to our next campsite which will be at Mirror Lake.

Monday, June 12
Get an early start and hike back to the trailhead parking where we will depart back to Chicago.

Guidelines:
We practice Leave No Trace and expect that everyone attending is also committed to these principles. http://lnt.org/ This is an intermediate trip due to the mileage and elevation and potential for inclement weather. No add-ons. If your friend wants to attend, please ask them to sign up for the meetup site and join the trip through normal procedures. No pets, children, or other dependents.

Transportation:
Trip organizers do not arrange carpools or transportation. If you want to offer or solicit a ride, use the Comments section for the trip.

Each driver is responsible for getting to the meeting point on time. If you are going to be late, contact one of the trip organizers as this affects the entire group. Each car should make its own gas reimbursement arrangements.

Costs:
Campsite permits are $136 and will be spilt evenly among the participants, MI Recreation Passport (parking) $11 per day/$41 for annual, plus fuel costs
