Description

Jack has had a year of non-compete with which to do whatever his heart desires, which turns out to be really over optimizing some code for an esoteric math calculation. He'll take you on a journey though everything he learnt as he pushed the code as hard as it could go - and talk about which heuristics he found useful to guide his path. Hopefully you'll learn a trick or two yourself for when you next find yourself optimizing.

About the presenter

Jack cut his teeth as a software engineer in embedded systems, working on projects varying from a razor that can tell when you're shaving, to a DNA aligner for prenatal testing. Since then he's worked in the finance industry, managing ML models, managing people, and doing extremely low latency trading. He's spent the last 6 months at the recurse center, programming for fun and learning, which is where this talk stems from.
