But none of its successors can rival the mesmerizing blend of romance and mystery that haunts every frame of the 1925 Lon Chaney original. Chaney gives his greatest performance as the Phantom, the vengeful composer who haunts the Opera of Paris and wears a mask to hide his hideously deformed face. His love for a young prima donna takes a sinister turn when he abducts her and carries her away to his lair in the depths of the catacombs underneath the city.
A FEW MONTHS AGO WE SAW THE ORIGINAL NOSFERATU AT THE LANDMARK WITH LIVE SCORE AND IT WAS AN EXCELLENT PRODUCTION.
