Join the Chicago Kotlin User Group and the Chicago Tech Learning Community for a hands-on workshop dedicated to bridging the physical and digital worlds using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and Bluetooth.

Whether you want to connect to smart fitness trackers, IoT sensors, or custom hardware, this session will give you the foundational tools to handle hardware communication across Android and iOS from a single, shared codebase.
What You'll Learn

• Bluetooth Fundamentals: Demystifying scans, advertisements, services, and the architecture used to transmit data between devices.
• KMP Architecture for Hardware: How to structure your multiplatform code to handle cross-platform hardware APIs cleanly.
• Reactive Hardware Streams: Using Kotlin Flows and Coroutines to safely stream live, real-time peripheral data straight to your UI.

Is This Beginner-Friendly?

Absolutely. If you have basic familiarity with Kotlin or general object-oriented programming, you will be able to follow along. You do not need prior hardware, embedded systems, or mobile development experience.
We emphasize a highly collaborative, zero-judgment environment. If you are relatively new to the ecosystem, we will actively facilitate pair programming so you can team up with an experienced peer and tackle the code together.
Logistics & What to Bring

• Bring Your Laptop: You will need a machine with Android Studio installed (and Xcode if you plan to test the iOS target locally).
• Hardware: We will be using android & iOS devices for demonstration, so just bring your phone with you.
• Space & Community: We are gathering at the wonderful Pilsen Arts Community House. Space is intimate, so please keep your RSVP updated so we can accommodate everyone!
