CHICAGO MEDITATES - 6/16 - Foster Beach

Everyone is welcome to join our weekly meditation on Monday evening at 7:00pm. THIS MEETING WILL BE LIVE AT FOSTER BEACH IN CHICAGO. The address is 5200 N Lake Shore Drive (at Foster Avenue and Lake Michigan), Chicago, IL. DRESS FOR "COOLER BY THE LAKE."

You will find us in the grassy area just south of the "Get a Grip Trapeze" cage. Walk 50 yards south of the cage on the wall above the lake. We will be a circle of people in chairs and on blankets. FOR THOSE WHO WISH, A HANDFUL OF US ARE MEETING AT 6PM FOR DINNER BEFORE MEDITATION! BRING A SANDWICH, SALAD OR WHATEVER YOU WISH AND JOIN US! MEDITATION STARTS AT 7PM.

NOTE: YOU MAY WISH TO BRING INSECT REPELLANT IF THE FLIES ARE BITING. Bring a beach chair, blanket or meditation cushion... whatever it is that you will be comfortable sitting on for an extended time. Remember the lake can invite a cool breeze that can chill so dress accordingly.

If the weather forecast threatens immanent rain, we will use Holy Trinity. Please watch this space for changes that may take place due to weather. Steve Starr will send out an email in case of a rain location change.

The parking lot for Foster Beach is metered so be prepared to use your Chicago parking app to pay for parking. A FREE PARKING option would be Simmonds Drive which is just a short walk south of the parking lot. Coming early is wise if it is good beach weather.

All levels of experience are welcome. If you are new to meditation, make that known to the facilitator so we can provide some guidance for you. We have up to 30 minute silent sitting sessions, so some level of acclimation to stillness is helpful. Though we are secular, you'll find Buddhism, Vipassana, and mindfulness are common themes here.

The evening will include silent sitting meditation, walking meditation, a reading and reflection with time to share with one another. Some times there is very accessible Qigong as a way to tune into the body.

There is a $1 voluntary donation for the evening to help defray the cost of our rent at Holy Trinity.
