Meditation at Federal Center Plaza – October 10 – 4:30PM
Details
Please join us for a public meditation October 10, 2025, 4:30PM, Chicago Federal Center Plaza, Kluczynski Building, 230 S. Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL. We will sit in silent meditation as a sign of our unity with those most vulnerable in our city and our world who currently suffer from the policies of the new U.S. presidential administration. Then we will sound our singing bowls in a chorus for peace and justice.
The greed, aggression, and indifference demonstrated by our elected officials are causing suffering on a vast scale. Love, respect and wisdom compel us to sit in solidarity with those who suffer in the face of racism, gender- and sexual orientation-based violence, xenophobia, economic injustice, war, and environmental degradation.
Our desire is to work with courageous hearts to prevent harm and shift the tide toward that which will benefit all people, the natural world, and the future that belongs to our children. All are welcome to join us in silent meditation. If you wish, please bring a meditation cushion or a folding chair and your singing bowl. We will sit for 20 minutes, do a walking meditation for 10 minutes, and sound our bells to conclude.
As of this writing, I know of no deployment of military to Chicago. However, the consensus is that ICE activities are stepped up here. For that reason, I encourage anyone attending to prioritize your own safety. Here is a link to a "Know Your Rights" guide put together by the ACLU... "Know Your Rights If Stopped By ICE" and "Know Your Rights - Protesting." Our meditation group is NOT obstructionist at all, but we will be adjacent to the Dirksen Courthouse where people go for their immigration hearings. Homeland Security vehicles routinely park in front of the Dirksen Federal Building.
