About us

We hike Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from different Cook County Forest Preserve locations on the northwest side of Chicago and in nearby suburbs. The walks are 5.5 miles, plus or minus, and take about 2 hours. The group size ranges from 2 to 15 people and we go year round. If the weather is raining or very cold (below 15°F), the hike may be cancelled.

The Monday walk starts from the “Calvin R. Sutker Grove” on Golf Road in Skokie and goes either NNW or SSW from the start area, almost entirely on wooded paths or crushed limestone bridle paths.

The Wednesday walk starts at the “Irene C. Hernandez Family Picnic Grove“ on Foster Avenue in Chicago. This hike has the most variability of routes: sometimes all wooded trails along the North Branch of the Chicago River, other times south or east of the start area on all paved sidewalks and city park paths.

The Saturday walk starts at the “Catherine Chevalier Woods”, on N. East River Road along the Desplaines River. This hike is a mix of paved and unpaved paths on the east side of the river.

Use Google Maps and the quoted names above to find the exact locations of the various hikes.

This is a fun, friendly, very social group of mature adults and we are respectful of each other’s diverse beliefs and backgrounds. Hopefully you will join us on one of our future hikes.

Happy Trails!
