What we’re about
Our actions matter! If you live in the North West Chicago suburbs and you are trying to be more sustainable join this group. We can meet in person and online to discuss and take action in everyday life to achieve a more sustainable living that has an impact on climate, deforestation and loss of biodiversity. There is much we can do in our cooking, gardens and everyday choices to help our Earth.
Activities include: Organizing invasive removals, help each other achieve 100% sustainable gardening, native plant seed exchange, help each other with composting, meat-free cooking, help each other in reducing palm oil, growing our own food, making our homes go with renewable energy, reducing waste, more ideas are welcome!

In celebration of the National Drive Electric Month, join us for an engaging presentation by the Fox Valley Electric Auto Association as they dive into the world of EVs!
FVEAA President Tracey McFadden and his wife, Kathy, will explore the technology behind electric vehicles, how they operate, what it’s like to own one, and what the road ahead looks like for EVs. Whether you're a dedicated EV fan or simply curious, this session offers practical insights and firsthand experiences from everyday electric drivers.
The Fox Valley Electric Auto Association (FVEAA), founded in 1975 and incorporated in Illinois in 1979, became a chapter of the Electric Auto Association in 2004. Decarbonization is the reduction of carbon in the atmosphere, either by reducing emissions through energy efficiency and renewable energy generation, or by removing carbon that’s already in the atmosphere. NIU has recently partnered with Trane to develop and implement a comprehensive energy-saving and carbon-emissions-reduction program on the DeKalb campus. Join us at the next NIU STEAM Café to learn about the local impact of this partnership, as well as Trane’s global decarbonization efforts through innovative technology, education and client engagement.
Northern Illinois University STEM Cafés are part of NIU STEAM and are designed to increase public awareness of the critical role that STEM fields play in our everyday lives. They are offered in partnership with the NIU Alumni Association and made possible with support from additional sponsors and individual supporters.
