(Mid-July) Hackathon Workshop Workshops #0

Details

OBJECTIVES

  • Share Hackathon experiences from multiple perspectives
  • To work together on structuring and planning for the Hackathon Hackathon in the First and Second Hackathon Workshop Workshops
  • Keep the first event relatively small and filled with people we know and trust to maximize Tippi’s facilitative skills
  • To explore more about various aspects of Hackathon Workshops and possible approaches that could be beneficial to Hackathons through workshop presenting sessions on particular topics

AGENDA
Workshops Facilitator: Tippi Fifestarr
Introduction: Tippi explains the objectives and the sequence of the workshop to the participants
Workshops:

  1. Guest-of-Honor have time to share their stories (10 minutes) as a welcoming opening ceremony
  2. First workshop (40 minutes) is Shaping Hackathon Workshop Artifact Group (SHWAG), to broadly shape the scope of the Mid-August Hackathon Workshop Workshops, and figure out what kind of swag we can offer for the Mid-September Hackathon Workshop Workshops (so that we can apply for the budget and begin earlier)
  • Identifying current and prioritizing hackathon difficulties
  • Brainstorming the possible solutions (including swag)
  1. Second workshop (20 minutes) is “Teach Anything (for Hackathons!)” by Tippi Fifestarr, delivered to a live (hybrid) audience, with an anonymous survey for feedback and measurement of Key Learning Objectives, including:
  • Who is Jorge Lucero?
  • What is Teach Anything?
  • Why Teach Anything is a solution to common problems at Hackathons
  • How Teach Anything (for Hackathons!) can improve teamwork, overall learning and community engagement at your next hackathon?
  • How to facilitate a Teach Anything?
  1. Third Workshop (20 minutes) is Hackathon Study Group Study Group by Web3 Library, where the Proto.School Study Group members share how to set up a recurring and mutually beneficial study group in a decentralized way. Such that might benefit a 5-week long hackathon.
  2. Discussion (10 minutes)
  • Introduction of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (for Hackathons!). Examples such as RampsNotStairs (for DAOs!)
  • How can we attract more developers to our hackathons
  • Team building workshops effective? (on dropouts and pre-made teams)
  • Communication with mentors
  • Finding the right mentors
  1. Final Thoughts from the Guests of Honor
  2. Q&A at the end
  3. Wrap up – Tippi / Sam
  4. Closing: Digesting the information (Planning Team)
