A continuation of our return to live and in person meetings, please join us in rebooting the Chicago R User Group with another evening of lightning talks and an open mic!

Doors open at 5:00, talks begin at 5:30!

In the spirit of Open Source we welcome you, Chicagoland R users, to attend and consider contributing a short talk on the novel work you're proud of. As always, slides including simple code that can be displayed in a readable way is encouraged. Register here to present and/or just Bring Your Own Slide Deck for the Open Mic! (https://forms.gle/oE7pXjkUzKyXuvQH9)

Lightning-ish talks of 10-20 minutes, follow by an Open Mic on any R related topic, on a FIFO basis. The following talks are on deck:

Dr. Adan Z. Becerra, Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director for Clinical Research, Dept. of Surgery, Rush University (https://www.linkedin.com/in/adan-z-becerra-phd-82ba34126/). Adan will give us a fun and accessible talk on Bayesian multilevel models and data visualizations with ggplot2.

Justin M Shea, Assistant Professor of Finance and Executive Director of the Clearing Corporation Charitable Fund Finance Honors program at Roosevelt University (https://www.linkedin.com/in/justinmshea/). Extending a talk produced for the Bureau of Labor Statistics in March, Justin will present Time Series Data, Best Practices in R. Working examples will be on real financial data sets of varying sizes and periodicities.

** We are monitoring daily infection counts (currently falling) and will adjust the parameters of this event based on guidance from the City of Chicago and local experts in the field **

As vaccination rates continue to increase, Governor Pritzker issued guidelines for all Illinois Businesses to reopen on June 11th. (https://www2.illinois.gov/Pages/news-item.aspx?ReleaseID=23399)
In step with the Governor, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot moved up the city's time table to match the state of Illinois, and also fully reopened on June 11th. (https://www.reuters.com/world/us/chicago-reopen-fully-june-11-mayor-says-2021-06-04/)

Given our commitment to gathering safely, we are incentivizing vaccination of all in attendance by giving you FREE beverage tickets if you can display proof of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. So bring your vaccine card and enjoy a beverage! 🍷🍻 🍷🍻

But wait...there's more! You may also receive a free plastic sleeve to protect your vaccine card. However, in the spirit of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle β™» (hat tip, Troy Hernandez) you should reuse one of the many lanyards you've acquired from the conference circuit if possible.

If you aren't vaccinated, you still have time as doses are becoming widely available! Please visit the Illinois Department of Health COVID-19 Vaccine FAQ page for more details. (https://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/vaccine-faq)

As always, please reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you live and in person at the Haymarket Pub & Brewery soon!
