Can we discuss "White" American Culture?

Our discussion in this group will be problematic in my opinion until we acknowledge existence of "White" American Culture. And acknowledge the differences in experience, understanding and history.

We continue to struggle with this concept because many "White" Americans do not acknowledge they have a general cultural behavior, beliefs, or history.

So for this discussion, we won't try to convince anyone. But we will focus on what we know to be objective facts. We commonly hear the response that "White" American Culture does not exist. That there is just American Culture.

So for this discussion, if that is true, why is it that we need to identify African-American History, Latino American Culture or Asian-American Heritage Month?

Why isn't the American Cultural umbrella big enough to inform and teach everyone about these different cultural expressions, historical facts, or traditions?

This is something to think about. Be prepared, because we are going to have this discussion for several weeks.

Thanks!
