Schizophrenia: Myth and Science

From beautiful minds to serial killers, schizophrenia is a mainstay of plots, but what is it? How does it affect the person who suffers from it. What are the treatments and can it be cured with acupuncture?

Kate will walk us through some myths and some realities of schizophrenia and will give us some insight into a potential science-based treatment.

Kate is a third year student at Northwestern University who has previously interned at the University of Texas's Department of Schizophrenia, and is a double major in psychology and psychological services. At some point, she'd like to make people sit on couches and tell her about their feelings, but right now she writes in different places around the internet, including Teen Skepchick and Freethought Blogs. Kate was raised believing alternative medicine worked, and now spends her time making skeptical faces at it.
