What we’re about

UPDATED = please note that this is an informational post only and MeetUp is not monitored regularly.  See the end of this post for the contact email.   ALSO, although we love our former female players and would love to help organizing a separate all women's game, we are limiting recruiting to men only due to several significant injuries to female players.  If you are interested in setting up a women's game, contact me at the email below and I will try to facilitate.

We are a group of around 30 regulars who play football (8 on 8 two hand touch with blocking) on Sunday mornings all year around, regardless of weather or temperature. Our regular game has a history that dates to the 1970’s, when a group of guys started a weekly Saturday game at Barry and Lake Shore Drive. Some of our current guys come from that group, and others from a different Sunday game started in 2003. The two groups discovered each other and merged in 2008.

Although we have a consistent core group, we occasionally post on the internet to replace or supplement guys who move away, “retire,” or are unable to make it as regularly as they might like. We are here to find some new recruits.

We hail from all different walks of life– you will find doctors, lawyers, executives, chefs, financial professionals, artists and others in our mix. Our players range in age from 17 to 55. Since there is a pretty good amount of athletic ability on the field, with a number of former high school and college athletes participating regularly, the games are played at more than a recreational or casual level. We play in two Chicago public parks on soccer fields, with the location switching with the season. The field dimensions for our field are roughly that of a standard football field. The weekly game is always highly competitive, but the best part about the game is that the group is very tight knit and self-regulating. We are very friendly, often funny, and we don’t tolerate fighting or inappropriate behavior. However, the game can be physical due to blocking, so expect physical contact on pass rushing (typically one on one blocking), completed passes (downfield blocking) and due to inadvertent collisions on the playing field. We play at an above-average pace and play for a long period of time. Many of our group are former high school and college athletes, so the level of competition can be high. We expect that anyone who joins us is at least an average athlete, and is willing to play in a fast paced and competitive game.

If you are interested, although you can sign up here, please EMAIL us at chicagosundayfootball@gmail.com and I will reach out to you with more details.
