5.5 - 6 mile hike at Burnidge Forest Preserve with 2.5 mile option

Details

Parking:
There are 2 parking lots. We are meeting at the parking lot which is off of Coombs road. Its the first parking lot about 1/4 mile from Coombs road.

Summary:
My son and I discovered this forest in December 2020 and I have led multiple hikes here every year ever since. Its a lovely preserve which offers a little bit of everything! On this hike you can expect mostly forest and some prairie, a few ponds here and there, a few hills here and there. The trails are very well maintained and no bushwhacking. Except for one small section that is optional :) every year some of us like to go back in there for quarter mile to see if trail still exists.

Some trails will be very wide 12 foot crushed limestone, some narrow 3 feet wide, and most packed dirt or grass. Very small portions
asphalt.

Several trails are road bike trails as seen by their narrow well defined groove. No mud but there is one section of the trail which appears to be permanently flooded which we'll avoid.

This trail will allow you to enjoy the views without watching every step you take less you trip. There are tripping hazards rocks and roots popping out here and there but not nearly as much as other places.

The mileage is 5.5 to 6 depending on whether sections we did previously are overgrown.

This hike is cross posted with Trailblazers Hiking Group

and my rsvp will include members of that group

Directions
The entrance is off of Coombs road. Drive less than .25 (one quarter) mile down the preserve entrance. Take the very first right and park in that lot.
Do NOT follow any other forest preserve drives after the very first one you see which will be the first right.
