OSS @ CJUG: Open Source with Ktor and Apache Camel Quarkus Integration

Details

ABSTRACT:

Ktor is an asynchronous framework for Kotlin which can be used for development of microservices, web apps, and more. It has a great community behind it, and of course it is open source. In this session, we will learn the fundamentals of the framework by developing a basic web service with Ktor. We will also take a look at how to get started working with the sources for building and developing the framework.

One of the new additions to the Apache Camel ecosystem with the 3.x release is integration with the Quarkus Framework. One of the features Quarkus offers is native compilation however this support does not always come without additional code in the libraries that support it. Camel is an integration framework with far reaching support for a large number of libraries which makes it a very ambitious target for native compilation. We'll review some of these code modifications in the Camel Quarkus project and talk about them as potential targets for developers looking to get involved in open source.
