Check out the space on **June 20th from 7 - 8:30pm** for Square Dance Lessons at **Dance Center Chicago at 3868 N Lincoln Ave** (at Byron) near Irving Park and Damen Ave, just down the road from the Music Box. This is a public event, No experience needed! **Lessons will run on Thursdays from July 11th - September 26th.** Sign up for the eventbrite here!

We start at 6:30pm with 30 mins getting to know each other and a few dance moves to get in into the flow and open of the space. 7pm we will officially begin lessons, learning the basics of the square. Around 8:45pm, we will break and begin to head toward the Music Box for The Birdcage event.

Square dancing is done in groups of four couples who begin by facing one another as if standing on the sides of a square. Men can be with men and women can be with women. It's a great way to meet others, connect with a regular group of friends and also flirt with new guys. The dress attire is **clothed casual** or anything really as long as you are clothed and comfortable.

What makes square dancing different from other dance forms is that instead of learning a specific set of moves (choreography), dancers learn individual dance moves, "called" out to the dancers, by the caller. It can be really fun because it's spontaneous, as dancers don’t know what the next call is going to be. Personally, It helps me clear my mind at the end of the day and the physical exercise increases my feeling of wellbeing.

A wide variety of music is used in square dancing these days, from traditional country western songs, Broadway show tunes, Tribal World music, anything with a steady beat!
