Fear: What are we so afraid of?

Details

Each year in the United States and other countries around the world, we use the month of October to celebrate ghosts, darkness, and even death. Many people love Halloween, scary movies, and haunted straw mazes. Others claim celebrations like these are satanic, or too dark for adults (and especially children) to celebrate.

In this month’s discussion we’ll examine what role fear has in our society. Why do we celebrate it? Does fear keep us safe? Does it make us buy unnecessary products? Vote for certain candidates?

We’ll examine fear using prepared discussion questions. When we get to our location, I’ll have these questions printed off and we’ll split into groups of 4 to 6. Each group will lead their own discussion using questions.

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RSVP ON FACEBOOK so I can reserve tables at Slackwater.

Note: We want to create a respectful environment where people aren’t afraid to share and examine their beliefs. It is inevitable that we view these topics differently and it may get slightly heated. Please remember that everyone deserves respect. We want to create a safe environment where women from different backgrounds, races, careers, religions, sexual orientations, and identities can get to know one another and share their thoughts. If you are intentionally shaming others, yelling, insulting others, etc, you will be asked to leave.
