The Sky Creek Dharma Center in Chico, a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in Chico in 2004, is holding its annual Wesak Spring Celebration including an introduction to all eight meditation groups that meet at the center in an "All-Sangha" panel discussion.
This is a free event, open to the public and welcoming all. Donations to help support the center are welcome, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please come if you are interested! Learn about our center and the groups that meet here!
This is the only day of the year where all EIGHT meditation groups (three Zen, two Vipassana, one Taoist, and two new groups, a Young Adult group, and the 'Just Mindfulness' group) meet and discuss the dharma, and their traditions and practices.
Our after-lunch discussion panel will be an introductory round where each group introduces the practices and traditions of their weekly sitting group, and then a lively discussion of a classic Buddhist topic, Impermanence.
9AM-10AM: In the meditation hall Monday Night group leader Marianne Pilgrim (MBSR teacher) will lead a one hour beginning meditation workshop. In the backyard under the giant oaks, Sunday Morning Taoist leader David Philhour will lead an energizing Qigong movement session.
10AM: Our traditional Wesak Bathing the Baby Buddha Ceremony, with chanting. Participation encouraged but completely optional.
11:30AM: We will serve a potluck lunch hosted by the long-time regular members of the many groups that meet here. Newcomers and first-timers: no need to bring anything, we will have plenty of food!
12:30pm: We will re-convene to start our panel discussion. In the first round of introductions, representatives of all eight groups at the center will share the traditions and practices of their groups. In the second round, each group will engage with the concept of Impermanence.
Guests are welcome to attend one or all events (you are free to come and go as you please)...
