What we're about

The Chico Vegan Meetup is a friendly, low-key meetup! No agendas, no pressure... our dine-in meetups are a pleasant social setting for vegans, vegetarians and veg-curious to meet, network, or just get out with like-minded folks who care about animals, the environment, and about themselves. In 2012 animal activist events will be added so we can hopefully make a difference for the animals in our community, so look for letter-writing and leafleting opportunities coming up.

The CVM Facebook profile is much more active in terms of local news items: https://www.facebook.com/groups/126921644016597/

May 2019 - Chico Vegan Potluck

Chico Public Library

Coming up! Mark Your ✏️📆⏱ Saturday, May 25,[masked]pm—7:30pm Chico Public Library 1108 Sherman Avenue, Chico CA 95928 You don't have to be vegan to attend, but the food does! Bring a 100% plant-based dish free of flesh, eggs, animal-derived dairy, honey, and gelatin. If you don't cook, that's okay -- bring something from the store (http://www.traderjoes.com/dietary-lists/vegan)! Your dish should serve 6-8 people. The goal of our monthly potluck is getting to know each other and sharing delicious food and recipes with those who care about their health, the planet, and, most of all, the animals. The theme for this month's potluck is muffin-pan food! You can look to this delightful blog post for inspiration - 12 Delicious Vegan Recipes You Can Make in a Muffin Pan LINK: https://chooseveg.com/blog/12-delicious-vegan-recipes-you-can-make-in/ You can make big muffins, little muffins, sweet muffins, or savory muffins -- or no muffins at all, since the theme is always optional. SHARING IS CARING - please share with or tag your friends, or post in your workplace or coffee shop. Thank you!! As always, there will be a table for the Plant Based Chico group for foods that are strictly whole-food, plant-based, with no added sugar, salt or oil. Everyone is free to select from each table and no food shaming, please. Please bring a printout of your recipe or a list of the ingredients used (for the benefit of those with food allergies) with your name on it. Please do not bring soup - we have no bowls and are concerned about spills. Please bring your own beverages. Please bring your own plates, cups, silverware, and serving utensils. We have spares available if you forget! Non-veg friends welcome! Children welcome! Sorry, no dogs. No alcohol. For more information or cruelty-free recipes, please visit chicovegan.com or shoot an email to Jeannie at [masked].

Chico Vegan Animal Place Tour

Animal Place

Please join Chico Vegan Meetup for a guided group tour of Animal Place. Afterwards we'll enjoy a group potluck, talk about the animals we met, what we felt and learned, and how to do more good things for the animals. If you've never been to Animal Place, you're in for a very special experience. We'll visit with some of the over 400 rescued farmed animals who call Animal Place home and learn about their history. Due to the virulent Newcastle Disease outbreak in southern California, the resident chickens, turkeys, and guinea fowl are quarantined for their safety and will not be accessible to the public. The tour will last two hours and will entail a lot of walking on flat ground. The facility is wheelchair-accessible, although there are some rocky portions of the property. You must wear long-pants and closed-toed shoes or boots (which Animal Place can provide). The property is shared with wildlife, including rattlesnakes. Closed-toed shoes also provide added protection when interacting directly with the large animals. Children are welcome! Visitor dogs are not permitted. This is for their safety and that of the animals. Please leave companion dogs at home. The tour is free, but donations are gladly accepted. We will meet at the Chico Park and Ride at HWY 99 and HWY 32 (lot closest to 99) at 9:15 am and will leave the park and ride by 9:30 am SHARP. Tour - 11am - 1pm Potluck - 1pm - 2:30pm
