Life, The Universe, Consciousness & Coffee: What Does It All Mean?
Details
Are you a inquisitive thinker fuelled by intense curiosity with a sense of levity? Are we just mere organisms pursuing biological survival or does consciousness exist beyond neurons firing in our brains? What accounts for "paranormal" experiences? What is the objective reality?
Join for a freindly social for deep minds with adventurous souls possessing independent thought processes and lifelong ubiquitous quest for the discovery of the truth with integrity but humour along the way! With minimal conversational structure - we'll light heartedly explore the mysteries of the universe and the limits of human knowledge using fun games identifying optimal routes to Nirvana on the way!
As well as illuminating thought provoking "spirituality" chatter, there'll be free tarot & I-Ching readings, a short mindfulness meditation to activate gamma brain waves and other paranormal/pyschic games - all just for a bit of fun of course!
If you're intellectually curious about life's big questions and links to noetic sciences and able to converse openly on eclectic topics in a derision free setting - sign up now! Depending on the evolution of dialogue - we may also touch upon the empirical evidence for paranormal & consciouness phenomena & potential explanations from both a neuroscience & metaphysics perspective along with epistemological & philosophical considerations.
To clarify - our definition of spirituality here relates to unexplained paranormal phenomena/supernatural and not to any religion as the problem with all that was best summarised by my philosophy professor: "If god put Adam on Earth, who put god on earth?"
----Potential Conversation Starters-----
- Does consciousness survive death or is Professor Brian Cox right in asserting if ghosts really existed then particle accelerators at CERN would of already uncovered evidence for ghost molecules making Ouija boards kids play? Empirical research by Neurologists shows thalamocortical circuits in our brain (neurons in the parietal cortex & central lateral thalamus) drive consciousness - so how can our sprit/mind live on after brain death?
- Is synchronicity/coincidence simply randomness disguised in the eye of the beholder or can what Einstein famously called “spooky action at a distance" (quantum entanglement) and other phenomena help to explain it?
- Quantum physics points to unknown dimensions in space and time highlighting limits to our current understanding. Could the standard model of physics be incomplete too and explain paranormal experiences?
- Given neuroscience is in it's infancy with lots yet to be discovered - could mediation help access functions outside of our BAU alpha & beta brainwave states? Is the Mandela Effect real? Do artifically created neural signatures using magnetic stimulation observed during mystical experiences debunk them?
- The laws of probability, the Drake Equation & common sense tells us there must be other life out there. If so, what explains the Fermi Paradox? Was the WOW signal aliens or something else?
- Stephen Hawking once said: "The past, like the future, is indefinite and exists only as a spectrum of possibilities." If matter only materialises when observed, does that mean consciousness defines all reality? Does quantum superposition & disappearing neutrons discovered by scientists mean parallel universes must exist? Metaverse could then explain deja vu & reincarnation instead of the psychology literature. Or do we just live in a simulation where nothing is real?
- Are near death experiences a result of neurochemical changes in the brain that occur close to death or something beyond physicality?
- What existed before the universe/big bang - how can you get something from nothing and conversely the reverse?
SO HOW DO WE GET TO THE "TRUTH"
The great paradox of knowledge is as the boundary between the known & unknown converge, we end up with more questions. As both a former journalist in pursuant of the facts and truth, and in my commercial consulting work, it quickly became evident that applying even the most cutting edge empirical methods & AI cannot answer the big questions. What we think we know and what we actually know diverge & the gap is challenging to bridge
In that spirit - every credible philosopher & scientist knows we'll never know the real truth. Could experimental methods help us to get closer to it? A blended philosophical approach guided by Immanuel Kant's pragmatism & Aristotle's deductive reasoning seems the most rationale framework but are there any other methodologies? Could the "spirituality" toolkit help?
