Walk Description

Ivinghoe Beacon a is a prominent hill and landmark in the Chiltern Hills, standing 233 m (757 ft) above sea level. It is situated close to the villages of Ivinghoe, and Aldbury in Bucks, the Ashridge Estate, and the village of Little Gaddesden in Hertfordshire, and is managed and owned by the National Trust. Ivinghoe Beacon lies between the towns of Dunstable, Berkhamsted and Tring. It is the starting point of the Icknield Way to the east, and the Ridgeway to the west.

The walk takes in panoramic views of the surrounding villages from along the ridge. One point of particular interest is the Whipsnade White Lion made in 1933 on the slope just below the Whipsnade wildlife park.

We are going to stop off for a drink at the 'Valiant Trooper' pub very near the end of the walk for about 4pm in the picturesque little village of Aldbury. It is only a mile walk to Tring station at the end of the walk, however if you want to get back to the station and miss the pub, one of the organizers will guide you back.

Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk. The walk should finish at about 4.30pm and include a 30 min snack lunch stop & pub at the end, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).
