Walk Description

Coombe Hill has great views over the Chiltern Hills and across the Aylesbury Vale, it also contains an impressive monument that was constructed in 1904 in memory of Buckinghamshire men who died during the Second Boer War.

The walk passes through a number of woods and scenic Chiltern countryside and uses a number of important footpaths including parts of the Ridgeway, an ancient track described as one of Britain’s oldest roads.

The walk starts at Great Missenden and passes through Wendover, both very historical and picturesque Chiltern towns.

This is walk 2 which will also be at a more hiker pace (moderately) than walk 1. Please only sign up for one of the walks. Both groups will get together at the end for some social drinks.

The organizers may combine walk one and two into one walk if numbers attending are low, if this happens we will usually use the shorter walk.

Lunch and Finish

Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk. Our walks usually finish at about 5.00pm and include a 30 min lunch stop, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).

Transport and meeting

Meet at Great Missenden station from 10.45am for walk to start at 11.00am

Train: The 10.12am train from London Marylebone gets to Great Missenden for 10.53am. See Chiltern Railways (http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/)

I would encourage you to seek out other members who are driving from London, or who can go as part of a group save on the train.

Car: If you are driving I would suggest parking in some of the council car parks which are free on a Sunday, such as Buryfields Car Park, Link Road, HP16 9AE, which is a short walk from the railway station.

Please make a note of the organizers numbers - Leon 07950125826 and Colin 07709305681.
