This pretty walk begins in the quaint English village of Aldbury, with its famous pond and medieval stocks. We head to the wooded Aldbury Nowers, with its beautiful autumn leaves and magnificent views over the surrounding countryside. Then we go to Pitstone Hill, which overlooks picturesque sights including the nearby quarry, windmill and villages.
From here, we head up the hill to the Ashridge Estate and make our way to the 108-foot Bridgewater Monument. The structure was built in 1832 to commemorate the man who built Britain’s first canal, Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater and 6th Earl of Bridgewater. After this, we go down the steep hill from Ashridge back to Aldbury and the end of the walk.
There’s the option for people to have a drink in the village pub afterwards, and you can walk to the start of the walk from Tring Railway Station, just over a mile away. Dogs welcome, but they’re your responsibility.
