Are you ready to explore the breathtaking beauty of the Chilterns? Join us as we walk the Chiltern Way in stages, discovering picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and hidden gems along the way. This long-distance trail, covering approximately 177 miles, offers a perfect mix of rolling hills, wooded paths, and open fields. From historical landmarks to cosy pubs, each stage of the Chiltern Way promises new discoveries and delightful experiences.
Section 7 of The Chiltern Way starts from the pretty village of Woodcote and winds its way through open fields and small patches of woodland towards the equally charming village of Ewelme.
To take advantage of nearby Wallingford and public transport, we will extend this walk slightly and head, via Benson, onto Wallingford. We'll also stop for a well-earned pub stop at Benson! This allows us to meet at Wallingford and utilise the regular X40 bus service to get to Woodcote and avoid a carpooling shuffle.
We'll be catching the 10:16 bus at the Marketplace stop, if you miss it, not to worry, just head straight to Woodcote (can park at the village hall) and get the bus back at the end. If anyone wants to shorten the walk slightly, they can also hop back on the X40 bus at Benson and skip out the last few miles.
Quick note that as of writing this the weir bridge at Benson is still closed, so we'll need to take the slightly less scenic route along the river to get back to the cars :(
We'll meet at Riverside car park at 09:45 (parking if £6.00 for 10 hours as are all other car parks, this just tends to be quieter) and walk towards the bus stop at 10:00. If you're coming from a different car park please meet at Market Place bus stop by 10:10.
Please dress for the weather, bring plenty of food and water and wear sensible footwear (no plimsolls or jeans please). Well behaved dogs are welcome but must remain on a lead at all times for the comfort of others and under their owner's responsibility.
