Are you ready to explore the breathtaking beauty of the Chilterns? Join us as we walk the Chiltern Way in stages, discovering picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and hidden gems along the way. This long-distance trail, covering approximately 177 miles, offers a perfect mix of rolling hills, wooded paths, and open fields. From historical landmarks to cosy pubs, each stage of the Chiltern Way promises new discoveries and delightful experiences.

Section 13: Barton-Le-Clay to Offley

This section of the Chiltern Way picks back up in Barton-Le-Clay where we’ll immediately head up onto the top of the Barton Hills for some lovely views stretching north of the Chilterns! We’ll follow the Chiltern Way through to Pegsdon Hills where we might be lucky enough to see some of their rare breed sheep and cattle (including Highland Cows) grazing.

Continuing through Pegsdon we continue to the Knocking Hoe SSSI where rare orchids and butterflies are often seen. The second half of the walk takes us south through Little Offley and on to our end point in Offley village – where, weather and space permitting, we’ll stop for a well-earned drink at the Red Lion!
This route starts with a slightly steeper climb but is largely rolling hills throughout with a number of smaller ascents.

This is a full day walk at a steady pace, with 13 miles and around 450m of ascent, so moderate fitness is required. Walking boots are essential, please bring a packed lunch (we’ll stop at an appropriate point to enjoy lunch with a view) and enough water to stay hydrated!

Note this is a linear walk; we will be meeting at the end (Offley at 10:00AM) where we will the car pool to the start point (Barton-Le-Clay for 10:30AM). Parking is limited in Offley so please leave sufficient time, park considerately and conscientiously and consider car sharing where possible. Should you wish to meet us in Barton-Le-Clay, please note that we are unable to guarantee a lift back from Offley at the end of the walk.

Dogs welcome on leads throughout - some fields we pass through may have grazing lifestock and as dog owners are asked to be mindful of this.
