CYW are swapping the trails for the page this evening!

Join us for a relaxed and friendly discussion of Walking Home by Simon Armitage. Whether you've walked the Pennine Way yourself, enjoy travel writing, or simply appreciate thoughtful memoirs and poetry, we'd love to hear your thoughts.

What to Expect

Read Walking Home at your own pace, or listen to the audiobook if you prefer. Then come along for an informal evening of conversation, where we'll explore Armitage's journey along the Pennine Way, his reflections on landscape, people, and life, and share our own perspectives on the book.

Our Current Read

This month, we're reading Walking Home by Simon Armitage—an engaging memoir that follows the Poet Laureate as he walks the length of the Pennine Way, funding his journey by giving poetry readings along the route. Combining humour, honesty, and vivid observations of Britain's landscapes and communities, it's a fascinating account of adventure, endurance, and home.

We're delighted to announce that The Harte & Magpies has kindly agreed to host our meetings. To show our appreciation, we kindly ask that you purchase at least one drink while attending the event.

If you're feeling peckish, we've been recommended their excellent selection of pizzas and other dishes. You can view the menu here:

Our meetings are limited to 20 participants. If you can no longer attend, please update your RSVP so that someone else has the opportunity to join.

We hope you'll join us for an enjoyable evening of conversation, shared ideas, and discussion as we follow Simon Armitage's remarkable walk home.

Happy reading!
